Trees Knoxville…We Plant Trees…and Much More!
From the beginning, planting trees for the community has been a number one priority.
Our first community tree planting
In December 2016, Trees Knoxville had its first tree planting event in collaboration with the Knoxville Urban Forestry Program and Knoxville Habitat for Humanity in the Silver Leaf Neighborhood, a development that was largely bare of trees. Over 70 volunteers planted 55 street trees in around two hours. We had volunteers from Habitat for Humanity, the City of Knoxville, Knoxville Utility Board, University of TN students and several other community groups and businesses. It was a true community effort.
And that was just the start of expanding the urban forest canopy…
…each year following the Silver Leaf tree planting, the Tennessee Division of Forestry has awarded us grant money that has enabled us to plant 50 to 60 trees a year with the assistance of 20 to 30 volunteer foresters helping with the plant. We coordinate site selection with the Knoxville Urban Forestry Program using information and data on the canopy coverage to ensure that selected sites are those most in need of improved canopy cover.
Partnering with and lending our support to other agencies and nonprofits that want to contribute to the Urban Forest Canopy benefits the community, and Trees Knoxville not only plants trees and gives trees away (for free), we also grow community.

the city of Knoxville to plant trees at several city parks
Trees Knoxville will continue to look for opportunities & partnerships to expand the Urban Forest Canopy and for future projects & events to accomplish our goals.
As part of our mission to increase the urban forest canopy of our community, Trees Knoxville organizes an annual tree giveaway that is free to the residents of the City of Knoxville and all of Knox County. We select the most suitable trees for our area focusing on native species, and when available and an appropriate species, we include trees that the community specifically requests.
Trees Knoxville utilizes this interaction with the public to provide important education regarding tree care…
Trees Knoxville also supports and assists with the Tennessee Environmental Council’s annual effort to distribute hundreds of thousands of trees across the state. Trees Knoxville is dedicated to maintaining this event using funds that are donated by local businesses and through selected grant funding.
