Trees Knoxville grew out of the convergence of the shared community and the Knoxville Urban Forestry Division’s interests in growing an urban canopy in Knoxville. A presentation to the Knoxville Tree Board in December 2014 led to the quick formation of a committee involving members of the tree board and several interest groups to assess the need for a tree foundation. The committee recommended that a nonprofit be formed to support the city and county’s efforts to preserve and enhance the urban forest.
Officially formed in 2015, Trees Knoxville is modeled itself after other tree organizations found in cities across the nation. Trees Knoxville received 501(c) (3) status in March 2017 and has become a vital bridge between the citizens of Knox County and all activities involving trees across the county.
Trees Knoxville works closely with the City’s Urban Forestry Program to increase trees on public and private properties.
The Trees Knoxville board is a network of various community organizations and leaders that share a common vision of growing our urban forest: arborists, tree care and landscaping professionals, teachers, and dedicated volunteers and is further enhanced by a network of tree advocates within Knox County stormwater program, Knox County schools, and neighborhood associations.
